Week 5

Colonization/13 Colonies
Day 1 (COW 4)
·         Research “The Mayflower”
·         Correct

Day 2 (COW 4)
·         Use the popsicle sticks to divide into “colonies” (groups should have no more than 3 people.)
·         Discuss this week’s “real world” history job – film consultant.
·         Explain the job and the “film brief.”
·         Students need to research their colony and design an oral and visual presentation.

Day 3
·         Give groups 15 minutes to finish presentations and organize how they will present.
·         Begin presentation.
·         Have students use metacognition techniques to analyze their own group, what they have learned, and what they think they still need to learn about the colonies.

Day 4
·         Give presentations – Students need to take notes
·         Have students use metacognition techniques to analyze their own group, what they have learned, and what they think they still need to learn about the colonies.
·         Review for quiz.

·         Review briefly
·         Formative quiz

Week 3


Native Americans and Early Explorers

Day 1
·         Correct Maps (if needed)
·         Finish Tribes Worksheet
·         Have students copy Native American Writing slide.
·         If finished, have students make a pictograph of the event they described in their paragraph.
·         Have students make a pictograph of the event they described in their paragraph.
·         They need to trade their pictograph with the person to their right, and that person has to translate what they see.  Have them trade two more times and do the same thing.
Day 2
·         Show Columbus video from Biography Channel-42 minutes. (http://www.biography.com/people/christopher-columbus-9254209/videos/christopher-columbus-full-episode-2073085807)Stop and discuss as you watch.  Have students fill in the corresponding handout.
·         Go over “GGG” Explorer Motives – Have students take notes.

Day 3 –
·         Assign Explorer Maps

Day 4 – Computer Lab
·         Notes “The Effects of European Exploration on the Americas” Correct
·         Notes “The Columbian Exchange”
·         Review for the test

Day 5
·         Test on Native Americans and Early Explorers
·         Correct

·         ABC Book Due

First Test - Naming all the States!

Our first test will be September 9. You will be given a blank map of the United States and you will need to memorize and label all of the states. You may use abbreviations.
